Street Entertainer Rules & Regulations

Street Entertainment is defined as all entertainment performed on the Church St. Marketplace for remuneration, including but not limited to acting, singing, playing musical instruments without amplified sound, pantomime, juggling, magic, ballooning, dancing and reciting. Amplified sound and percussion are not permitted.


Street Vendor Rules & Regulations

There are three types of vendors on Church Street: artisan, artist or vendor. For each of these there is a list of requirements you must meet including but not limited to cart construction, licensing, insurance and health inspection (for food vendors ) before you are given a license. Non-Profit Tabling Rules and Regulations

The Church Street Marketplace District Commission offers non-profit organizations a non-profit tabling license on the Marketplace at designated locations, for the purpose of promotion, disseminating information, and/or receiving donations. Sales of goods and services (this includes but is not limited to raffle tickets, t-shirts, food, beverages, water, etc.) are not allowed under the license.


Merchant Vendor Permit

The Merchant Vendor Permit is required from all Church Street Marketplace merchants when planning on going out for a sidewalk sale. Merchant Vending Permits need to be faxed, sent or e-mailed to Mimi Gutchell 48 hours ahead of individual sidewalk sale.


Parade, Walk, Rally or Vigil Application

If you would like to hold a rally, parade, vigil or walk on Church Street, please fill out the following document and return it to the office. To unsure the public's safety on Burlington's streets and sidewalks, if your event requires the use of city streets and sidewalks, other than the Church Street Marketplace District, you must first contact the Burlington Police.


Artists in the Alley Rules & Regulations

The Church Street Marketplace Artists in the Alley Program is for fine artists only. Fine art is defined as painting, drawing, photography and sculpture. Artists may not sell or display crafts or anything other than fine art; that the artwork must be original work or reproduction; and artists may not sell another artists artwork. For additional rules & regulations see the attached PDF document.


Main Street & Shelburne Road Banner Requests

The following groups may apply to hang a banner on either Main Street or Shelburne Road: City Departments, Burlington events that benefit non-profits, Burlington-based non-profits that serve downtown, organizations holding large conventions in Chittenden Count and all other non-profits. Please refer to the attached document for additional information and descriptions of qualifying groups.
